Impulse Compaction technology enables significant improvement of densification level and strength parameters of soil being reinforced. Upon application of Impulse Compaction, notwithstanding the original condition of the soil, the result is soil ground with homogenised and uniform parameters. It is particularly important in the case of soils with uneven distribution of density or areas with numerous hollows or cavities.
Impulse Compaction is made on the surface, with a predefined grid of points, using specialised equipment, a caterpillar-based excavator equipped with a hydraulic hammer with weight of 5-12 tonnes, which is pulled down on a special steel footing with 1.5 m diameter with high frequency, applying a predefined amount of energy into the soil. By generating high amounts of energy in a relatively short time (about 40 impulses/minute), loose layers are compacted, hollows and caverns are filled, and the result is homogenisation of soil conditions.
GPS System
DABI Impulse Compactor is equipped with a GPS system, which enables tracking compaction points in outdoor conditions with an accuracy to a few centimetres. This is particularly important in the case of performing a few working passages along the same points or a requirement to adjust to the Principal’s work schedule that tends to expect a swift change of the area of works within the construction site. GPS is integrated with an electronic control unit, and records and verifies the position of the compaction footing against required point coordinates on a regular basis.Earthworks quality control
An electronic control unit continuously monitors the operation of the impulse compactor and records and transmits data collected in the course of the compaction process on a regular basis. For each point, all data is being continuously registered, i.e. point number, point coordinates, date and time of completion, number of impulses, footing momentum or amount of energy being generated. Such data is available at each stage of compaction and may be, at any moment, generated by the system and transmitted from the construction management to a supervisory authority.Due to an electronic control unit, it is possible to perform supervision over the quality of works being performed, both online and in real time. Machine operation parameters are regularly displayed in graphic form on the display in the machine cab. The system enables remote preview and verification of data.
Compaction efficiency
Depth of application of impulse compaction is about 5-6 m, and depends on, among other things, the type of soil being reinforced, its structure and groundwater level.Compaction application
Impulse Compaction technology may be used at any place where it is required to compact any existing soil, improve its strength parameters, and reduce any potential for subsidence. It is most frequently used with sand soils (sands, sandy gravels, and gravels). Our experience proves that anthropogenic soils may also be reinforced. Additionally, post-industrial, mining and municipal landfills may be treated.Construction fields where Impulse Compaction is applied:
- hydraulic engineering - compaction of embankments of rivers, water bodies and ground under any type of hydraulic engineering objects
- infrastructural construction - compaction of ground under road and rail embankments, compaction of foundations for roads, highways, airports and car parks
- capacity construction - compaction of ground under any type of commercial areas, production, industrial, logistic or storage units, residential and non-residential buildings, office buildings
- fast and efficient method of soil densification and improvement of soil parameters to average depth;
- reduction of soil porosity and providing uniform subsidence over an entire area under reinforcement;
- high mobility of equipment and operation in difficult access conditions.
Vibration measurement
Impulse Compaction technology is a dynamic method of ground reinforcement, which entails vibration generation. However, practical experience gained by DABI enables operation in close vicinity of buildings by controlling and monitoring vibration influence. Contracts already completed prove that we can work safely 10-20 metres away from fragile objects.To obtain more information on services provided by DABI, contact our Production & Preparation Department.
